What is physiotherapy
Physiotherapists help people to get the most out of their lives. They are highly skilled professionals who study the sciences of the human body, and integrate this knowledge to help people restore and improve body functions.
Benefits of home visit physiotherapy
When you see a physiotherapist in your home you receive the benefits of a complete assessment of your physical condition and your environmental surroundings without the challenges of travel or the inconvenience of asking others for help with getting to an appointment. Ultimately, a home visit physiotherapist achieves a better result because the therapy sessions are carried out in the home where a recovery plan can be designed to improve your physical wellbeing whilst taking your lifestyle and living space into account.
What happens during a home visit?
Your physiotherapist, Wenika, begins the session with a discussion of your health concerns to establish your health goals and confirms that you are on the same page. Then she assesses your physical condition and your ability to move, particularly in relation to your complaint. This set up is followed by a therapy session in which your injury is treated and you are shown how to exercise for further improvement. Additional interventions are provided, if necessary, and a general appraisal about outcomes and timeframes are offered before the end of the session. Often subsequent appointments are required to evaluate the effect of the interventions and these can be set up at the end of the session or by contacting In-Home Physio SA. A report of the session is sent to your care coordinator at the end of the visit.
What should I wear?
Loose comfortable clothing is fine. For those who consult Wenika for pain management of the lower back, hips and knees, it is helpful, but not necessary, to wear shorts so she can assess your joint alignments and body movements.
I have a pet. Do you like animals?
Pets are a lovely companion, but they can be quite distracting during the therapy session. Since there is a lot of information to take in during the home visit, I prefer animals to be kept in a secure room for the session.
Do I need to clean up the house?
I am the mother of two young children who love to play so I know the challenges of keeping the house tidy and clutter free. Please feel comfortable with the condition of your house and accept me into it with the ease of a good friend.
What room will we use?
The vast majority of the assessment will be done in the living and kitchen area. Your bed may be used for back and neck pain.
